If it ain't broke....

Tue Apr 14, 2009, 11:06 AM
Before I end up on a rant about how BAD the new Red Dwarf was, Happy Easter to everyone, hope you had a nice, relaxing weekend and got loads of chocolate. I stayed home while Matt went to a re-enactment in Bristol, where Terry Pratchett asked for his photograph. Yes, that's right, Mr P wanted Matt's photo. He was dressed up in English red-coat kit, and had his gun - so maybe there's going to be a Monstrous Regiment 2? Heh! Anyway, I was dead jealous and wished I could have been there. I did have a good time though, and went round my friend's house to play Munchkin. WOOP!

Now Matt is home I have been catching up on the missed TV...but oh dear...Red Dwarf... it was like watching League of Gentlemen crossed with Blade Runner, mixed with a little bit of some strange sci-fi comedy that wasn't even funny. I mean, I know it had a lot to live up to, and was prepared for that, but the story was lame, in fact the whole story was based around the whole 'it was just a dream' idea (well squid ink actually) and drew upon elements of episodes in the past, just to get a laugh. There was no real 'new' comedy and I hated the fact they used CGI when Red Dwarf was known and loved for its tacky sets and badly made aliens... but it worked. The ending was no way an ending, it left far too much open and resolved nothing. Needless to say, I was not impressed. The only redeeming feature was Chris Barrie as Rimmer - still as amazing as ever and probably the only character I laughed at... as without the canned giggles, it was as quiet as the grave.

However... may I be the first to recommend Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire - AMAZING comedy with Matt Lucus playing the bad guy. It had me in stitches from the word go and has some classic quoteable lines. If you like your fantasy fantastic, then please, watch this - you won't be disappointed.

Right, now I'm gonna go off and do some more writing...and try and shake the horror that was Back to Earth from my mind. Previously I watched Robin Hood and Dr Who, and actually I would probably say Dr Who was the best of the lot... even though the guy who is going to replace him does seem a bit strange... it could work, but we will have to wait and see.
Okies, well take care all and don't scoff all your Easter chocolate!

:D And the winner of the geekiest journal entry is...?

Too bad you missed out on meeting Terry though. :( I've been thinking about getting myself a game of Munchkin (even though I generally don't play games, save 'Bunnyhop' or 'Hansel & Gretel' with the kids) for a while, but it just doesn't happen.
