Metallicaaahhh Review

Sun Mar 1, 2009, 6:40 AM
Last night we went to the Metallica concert at Sheffield Arena. My ears are still throbbing! It was an amazing show, loads of pyros including fire bursts, coloured lazers and smoke. The set design was quite impressive, the lighting all mounted on giant coffin shaped stands that were raised and lowered on chains.

I was amused on the tram by a couple of plastic fantastics who were sneering at the people going to the concert saying 'Look at all those loosers going to see Metallica' I just turned round and smiled disarmingly at them, after all, they probably wouldn't know what good music was if it bit them. Strangely enough I'm not a HUGE Metallica fan but I do appreciate a band that can sing and play all their own instruments. They put on an amazing show, sung for at least 2 hours non stop and were dripping when they finished. Nothing quite says rock like a sweaty guy with hair longer than mine, thrashing around and grinding on stage, LOL.

The two support acts were The Sword and Machine Head. I quite liked The Sword, but Machine Head were just noise. The only words I could make out were 'Sheffield' and 'F*$%' which didn't really add to my enjoyment of their music. Metallica played some of their new music from Death Magnetic, and some old classics like One, Enter Sandman, the FULL version of Master of Puppets (which was ace) and Nothing Else Matters. Strangely enough we ended up standing next to some ice-hockey players from Sheffield Steelers...which was even more random as when we went to see Iron Maiden in London, we saw their goalie (or net minder if we want to get all technical)!!! How strange!

Anyway, it was all good fun, the tram ride home was awful though and I ended up with my head shoved into another woman's armpit...nice... To finish the day off we had a kebab and then I didn't get up until 11am the next morning. My ears are ringing and my head feels like it's been through an industrial blender (even though I didn't drink) but I think all in all it was worth it. To see a band play that well is quite unique. They gave it their all and to make me even happier, the lead guitarist had a picture of a zombie on his guitar. Rock On!

Thanks for the comment, I think it was a world tour, don't know where else they played though. So many bands I like never tour the UK, so I guess we're lucky we got them :D Hope you get to see them one day!

That sounds like it was a blast! I'd like to go to a concert sometime with a group of friends, but we all have such drastically differing tastes in music as well as equally empty wallets, so that's kind of out of the picture...

Maybe I can drag :iconcanadian-rainwater: with me :D

Glad you had fun!
